What is GWO?

GWO (Global Wind Organization) is a federation formed by the most important companies in the wind energy sector worldwide. Its main objective is to educate and train qualified professionals related to the wind energy sector through common safety standards. Among the world’s leading companies that make up this federation are, among others, EON, Vestas, Grupo Acciona and Gamesa.
Once this common training framework has been implemented, the European Wind Energy Association (WindEurope) recognized him as the minimum level required of any worker working in the wind energy sector. in prevention and occupational safety and since 2013 this GWO training can only be provided by certified entities such as Altiur Formación.
The GWO certificate consists of four modules that must be taken in order to obtain the BST (Basic Safety Training Standard) qualification. Each module has its own objectives and training time, which are detailed below.
The four modules are:
BST – Work at Heights: 16 hours of training.
BST – First Aid: 16 hours of training.
BST – Manual handling of loads: 4 hours of training.
BST – Fire Fighting: 4 hours of training.
Once these modules have been passed, we have to take into account that they are only valid for 24 months, so they have to be renewed with a refresher training called “refresher training”. BSTR-Basic Safety Training Refresh which grants the professional another new certificate valid for another 24 months, the same as the first training.
